LME Appoints a Commercial Director

The London Metal Exchange has today announced the appointment of Liz Milan as Director, Commercial Department and Craig Hewett as Deputy Director. They will head up a new department combining all LME marketing and commercial activities. Liz will also join the LME Executive Committee.

Liz has been with the Exchange since January 2005, initially as Head of Physical Operations and appointed Steel Project Director in October 2006. Prior to the LME, Liz worked in physical steel trading and LME client liaison work for a number of companies including Mitsubishi, Stemcor and Sempra Metals Ltd.

Craig joined the LME in 2000 as Head of Marketing and was appointed Head of LME Data in July 2005, launching the Exchange's own direct data product, LMElive, in January 2008. He began his career in sales working in a number of positions for Xerox products and services.

Commenting on the announcement, Martin Abbott, LME Chief Executive said:

"Liz and Craig bring many years of wide and diverse experience to their new roles and I am confident that they will make a valuable contribution to the Exchange's commercial strategy, approach and operation. I look forward to working with Liz and Craig in this new context as we go forward."

Notes to editors:

  • Liz and Craig assume their roles with immediate effect.
  • The LME is the world’s premier non-ferrous metals market and achieved volumes of almost 93 million lots in 2007, an increase of 7% on 2006 figures and equivalent to $9,500 billion in monetary terms.
  • Trading at the LME in non-ferrous metals and plastics takes place across three platforms: through open-outcry trading on the “Ring”; through an inter-office telephone market and through LME Select.
  • On 25 February 2008 the Exchange launched Mediterranean and Far East steel billet futures contracts on LME Select and the telephone market. Ring trading will commence on 28 April 2008.
