Michael Overlander has been actively involved in commodities since 1971, having begun his career on the London Metal Exchange. He joined Sucden (UK) Ltd when it began trading in 1973.  He later spent three years in the company's New York offices and in 1985 was appointed to the board of Sucden and then managing director in 1987. He has been responsible for helping the company expand its activities from being a single product commodity house to a fully comprehensive brokerage company.

Michael has also been on the management committees on the London Commodity & Financial  Futures Markets as well as the London Clearing House, a former Director of the FOA of London, was chairman of the London Sugar Market for four years  as well as a Director of the former London Commodity Exchange (LCE).  In 1996 he was one of those responsible for co-ordinating the merger between the LCE and the London International Financial Futures Exchange (LIFFE).  He was then appointed to the LIFFE Board.

In May 2000 and again in 2004 he was elected to the Board of the London Metal Exchange. Sucden UK is one of the few remaining independent Commodity Brokers.
